Beautiful large embossed Valentine's Day envelope, sent locally in Thornhill, Dumfriesshire on  14th February 1872, bearing  1d pl 145 FF and HG. Some minor tone spots, but a superbly attractive item.195.00

Plate 56 - JG (showing [the more dramatic part] of the bold JG-KG re-entry just below the 'G' square.) Sent from Echt (ECHT PENNY POST) to Aberdeen on 24th Feb 1846, and cancelled by Maltese Cross - extremely late use. Some sealing wax staining verso, but an exceptionally rare and intersting combination.350.00

Superb redirected cover, sent from Turiff on 22nd June, the adhesive cancelled first with 331 of Turiff in BLUE. It travelled via Keith, where it received a transit stamp of 22nd. It was then redirected to Braemoriston(1d to pay in manuscript) from its original destination of Elgin (when it presumably received the second cancellation - the 133 of Elgin in black), returning via Keith - where it received another stamp on 23rd. There is no trace on the local map of Braemoriston, but there is afine udc for Botriphine (which was re-named Auchindachy in 1862) is a small village on the road from Keith to Drummuir.275.00

Two separate cancellations on a pair. Astonishing part cover  from Edinburgh to Drumin via Inverness (8th March 1847), bearing the seal of the Duke of Gordon (James Skinner was the Duke of Gordon's agent). The right-hand adhesive of the  pair carries the 131 cancellation of Edinburgh, whereas the left-hand one was missed in Edinburgh, an error the that the Inverness postmaster sought to rectify en route.350.00

Historic letter by a Scottish Presbyterian minister to his superior, describing his travels to  Kintyre, and the islands of Jura and Colonsay in pursuit of the church's aims there, and recounting much of the abject poverty in those remote parts. Full transcript of the 4-page letter.135.00
CC8Crimean War.  Cover from the Crimea sent via Marseilles to Lord Charles Fitzroy of the Coldstream Guards in London, and redirected to Kelso. Lt Col Fitzroy had recently returned to UK from Balaklava . The cover is dated 4th August 1854 - only a few weeks before the Battle of Balaklava and the Charge of the Light Brigade.265.00

Small lady's envelope with embossed 'Free' space for the adhesive - here filled with an almost 4-margined Alph III 'RG'. Sent from Belturbet on 28th August 1841 to Banbridge, carrying transit stamps of Armagh, Ballyconnell and Newry in addition to the deapatch and arrival stamps. Fascinating and attractive item. 65.00
